Death toll rises to 15 in Karachi building collapse


Karachi: The death toll from four-storey residential building collapse in Karachi’s Rizvia Society has reached 15, GNN reported.
According to details, at least fifteen people were killed and more than 40 injured as five-storey building collapsed in Karachi’s Rizvia Society on Thursday.

The building had initially been constructed as a four-storey complex, but a builder was constructing the fifth floor of the building when the incident happened.

Rescue officials immediately responded the incident while efforts along with local residents are underway to recover the persons trapped under the rubble. The rescue teams facing hurdles as the building is located in a populous area.

Rangers and Pakistan Army troops also taking parts in the rescue opertaion

Injured persons are being shifted to different hospitals of the city.

Reportedly, around six families were residing in the building when it collapsed.

As per residents, cracks had appeared in the building although it had not been constructed long ago.

Surrounding buildings have also been damaged and evacuated in order to avoid any undesirable situation.

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has taken notice of the building collapse and directed Commissioner Karachi to immediately start rescue operations in the area.

Governor Sindh Imran Ismail has also summoned report from Sindh Building Control Authority while taking notice of the incident.
