UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres meets Afghan refugees
ISLAMABAD: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has called on Afghan refugees.
According to details, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres met with Afghan refugees. The meeting is meant to assess the situation of Afghan refugees and the possibility of repatriation.
Refugees include residents of Afghanistan, Yemen and Tajikistan. The Secretary-General will also participate in the Climate Change Program, the Secretary-General said on the occasion that the people of Pakistan have shown great hospitality to Afghan refugees, for a long time I have hosted Afghan refugees. The world should acknowledge the sacrifices of the Pakistani nation.
On this occasion, the refugees said that Pakistan has taken good care of us, Pakistan is the second largest refugee refugee country after Turkey. There are currently 27 million refugees in Pakistan. Pakistan has provided all kinds of assistance to Afghan refugees by providing them refuge. We are grateful to Pakistanis.
It should be noted that UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Pakistan on a four-day visit. The arrival of Noor Khan Airbase was welcomed by Munir Akram, the permanent representative of Pakistan to the United States, and the top UN officials in Pakistan. During his four-day stay in Pakistan, Secretary General Dr. Arif Alawi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will meet with prominent Pakistani figures. President Arif Alawi will preside over the Presidency in honor of Antonio Guterres.
The Secretary-General of the United Nations will be briefed on Pakistan's perspective on all aspects of the Kashmir dispute in these meetings.
Other engagements of the Secretary-General include meetings with MPs, media representatives and young people, and will also address special issues on sustainable development, climate change and peacekeeping operations. The United Nations peacekeepers will meet with personnel at the inauguration of a photo exhibition on Pakistani services.
The UN Secretary General will leave for Lahore on February 18, where he will address the youth.
The Secretary General will also inaugurate the polio campaign in Lahore. Antonio Guterres will also visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur while attending the luncheon.
On the return to Lahore in the evening, scholars from various schools will meet with minority leaders. The visit will see the UN Secretary General Raji Masjid in Lahore, where he will be served a dinner at the royal fort.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will return on February 19, concluding the visit.
