UN chief Antonio Guterres in Pakistan to attend conference on Afghan refugees


Islamabad: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres arrived in Pakistan early this morning.

According to details, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has arrived in Pakistan on a four-day visit. The arrival of Noor Khan Airbase was welcomed by Munir Akram, the permanent representative of Pakistan to the United States, and the top UN officials in Pakistan.

During his four-day stay in Pakistan, Secretary General Dr. Arif Alawi, Prime Minister Imran Khan, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will meet with prominent Pakistani figures. President Arif Alawi will deliver dinner in honor of President Antonio Guterres. The UN Secretary General will be briefed on Pakistan's perspective on all aspects of the Kashmir dispute in these meetings.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will attend a global conference on Afghan refugees. Other engagements of the Secretary-General include meetings with MPs, media representatives and young people, and will also address special issues on sustainable development, climate change and peacekeeping operations. The United Nations peacekeepers will meet with personnel at the inauguration of a photo exhibition on Pakistani services.

The UN Secretary General will leave for Lahore on February 18, where he will address the youth. The Secretary General will also inaugurate the polio campaign in Lahore. Antonio Guterres will also visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Kartarpur while attending the luncheon. On the return to Lahore in the evening, scholars from various schools will meet with minority leaders. The visit will see the UN Secretary General Raji Masjid in Lahore,

where he will be served a dinner at the royal fort. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will return on February 19, concluding the visit.

Earlier, the visiting UN Secretary-General said in his tweet that Pakistan is a reliable country that is constantly contributing to the UN peace efforts worldwide. Antonio Goutrez said he is visiting the country to thank the people of Pakistan.
