Delhi CM Kejriwal asks Indian army for help as police fail to control spread of anti-Muslim riots

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister of New Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal, on Wednesday morning said that the Indian army should be called in to quell protests in Delhi after police had failed to take control of the city.
"I have been in touch with large number of people whole night. Situation alarming. Police, despite all its efforts, unable to control situation and instill confidence. Army should be called in and curfew imposed in rest of affected areas immediately," he said on Twitter.
The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on Tuesday attempted to gag media amid deadly violence in New Delhi that has killed at least 20 people in the last three days.
The move came as Hindu supremacist mobs ran rampage in New Delhi after protests erupted on a controversial citizenship law that has been deemed discriminatory toward Muslims.
While the US President Donald Trump was on a two-day visit to hold talks with Modi, pictures and videos from the affected areas showed horrific scenes forcing the authorities to issue directives to the media.
The Indian government has instructed news channels that they must be cautious about airing content that incited violence and promote anti-national attitudes, reported Hindustan Times
